William Horvath Obituary
William "Bill" John Horvath, born on April 20, 1942, in Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 83. Bill's life was a testament to strength, devotion to family and community, and the profound impact one person can have on those around them.
Bill began his journey in service to his country as a proud Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC. Following his military service, he protected and served as a police officer in Florida before transitioning to a career as a security officer. His professional path found its calling as a Superintendent at Mundy Companies Industrial Construction, where he dedicated 34 years of hard work and leadership.
A man of varied interests, Bill was not just defined by his career. He gave back to his community as a volunteer firefighter, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to helping others. He loved fishing and shared countless weekends on the water with his late wife Janice, finding joy in traveling to Santee Cooper in North Carolina or Sam Rayburn in Texas for adventurous fishing trips. Despite never quite deciding if the proper pronunciation was "croppie" or "crappie," his passion for fishing connected him with nature and family alike. One of his most cherished memories that he often recounted was his fishing trip to Canada with his nephews and father.
Bill treasured the camaraderie of the Moose Club and will be remembered for the warmth he brought into every room. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Horvath; brother, Bob Horvath; sister, Barbara Bertram; parents, Harold and Verna; and his devoted canine companion.
He leaves behind a loving legacy, survived by his daughters, BJ Horvath and Tammy Milliken (Kevin); his son, Chris Ramsey (Julie); grandchildren, Crystal Taylor (Justin), Chris Ramsey Jr., Amber Ramsey Hayle Santos (TJ), and Karlie Milliken (Ashlynn); as well as great-grandchildren Trinity, Brantley, Peyton, River, Ethan, Aliceyn, Gracelyn, Joshua, and Jayce. He also held close the good times shared with his sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends, including his lady friend Geri and her family, along with his first wife Inez Simpson, and special pals Mick and Lessie Bianco.
His memory will forever inspire comfort and joy to those who knew him. Bill's life was a beautiful testimony of love, laughter, and service.
A service to celebrate William's life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Moose Club. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor his memory.
