Marshall Salvatore Grillo passed away peacefully at his home on June 25, 2025. Marshall was born in Utica, NY to Ralph M. Grillo and Nancy Steppello Grillo. He graduated from Proctor High School, the University of Michigan with a BS in Pharmacy, and Kirksville College of Medicine as a physician. During his time at the University of Michigan, Marshall met his wife Margra and the two exchanged vows on January 24, 1956. Marshall and Margra were married 68 years. Margra preceded him in death on June 5, 2024.
Marshall and Margra leave behind three beloved children and ten grandchildren. Their children include Dr. Marshall Salvatore "Chip" Grillo (Judi Ciarlante), Dr. Alan Robert Grillo (Kelly Wilson), and Dr. Nancy Grillo Strauss (Dr. Philip Strauss). Their grandchildren include Sabrina Grillo Menard (Dylan Menard), Samantha Grillo (Jimmie Brown), Dominic Grillo, Adrianna Grillo, Kayla Grillo (Justin McGee), Karri Grillo (Collin Murphy), Alexandra Grillo, Melissa Strauss Rude (Ryan Rude), Rachel Strauss, and Eric Strauss.
Upon high school graduation, Marshall served two years in active service in the United States Navy, and then in the naval reserve until recalled to active service during the Korean War. He was awarded service medals for his activity in both WWII and the Korean War. Marshall was extremely proud of his service to his country. He was a member of the American Legion post 345 and was chosen in 2021 to be one of the first Korean War veterans to take the Honor Guard trip to Washington, DC. This trip was one of the highlights of his life.
He subsequently graduated from the University of Michigan and then Kirksville College of Medicine as a physician, becoming a certified radiologist practicing for 25 years. He also found time to volunteer as the Gladwin High School football team doctor for 30 years. After closing his medical practice, Marshall held several positions including assistant professor of radiology at Indiana University College of Medicine and chief of radiology in various other hospitals.
Marshall was an avid Michigan fan for his whole life, never missing a Michigan football game. Along with his love for the Michigan Wolverines, Marshall's favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing and golf. When the Grillo's moved to Florida in 2006, Marshall remained active with playing golf, even volunteering on Saturday mornings at the Harbor Hills golf course with the children's lessons. This combined two of Marshall's favorite areas: teaching and golf.
Marshall's funeral will be held at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Lady Lake, FL on July 16, 2025 at 8:30am, followed by a burial at Florida National Cemetery at 11am. A small reception will follow at 12:30pm at Harbor Hills Country Club.
Marshall's wife Margra's ashes will be interred with him. She preceded him in passing on June 5, 2024.
