Martha Jane Barker, 82, of Milford Center, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, August 23, 2024, with her devoted children by her side after months of failing health.
One of three daughters, Martha was born October 22, 1941, in Columbus to Andrew and Talitha (Graves) Payne. A graduate of Fairbanks High School, she spent her working career with positions at Scott's and RANCO, before retiring from Heartland in 2007. A TV enthusiast, Martha enjoyed watching the Lifetime and Hallmark channels, as well as her daily game shows such as the Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal. She had a fondness for strawberry sundaes, sauerkraut with pork, pepperoni and banana pepper pizza, and she could never pass up a garage sale. During the warmer months, she loved to swing on her front porch and chat with anyone who walked by, while she joyfully watched the birds in her yard. Her favorite holiday was Halloween, and she always looked forward to family coming over and sitting around her firepit in the backyard.
Martha was simply, beautiful. She was stoic, hardworking, and would do anything she could to help those she loved. She had the best laugh that easily made people smile, and she found true joy in the smallest of things. Most importantly, she loved her children and her grandchildren deeply. Her greatest happiness was in being a mom and a grandma, being able to be there for her family through all their ups and downs, and sharing as much laughter and love as they could together. Her family meant everything to her.
She is survived by her children, Tracy (Dave) Davis of Richwood, Kelly (Matthew) Hauenstein of Marysville, and Ron (Avis) Barker of Woodstock; grandchildren, Adam (Megan) Davis, Shawn (Tiffany) Davis, Courtney Davis, Aaron (Ally) Davis, Amanda (Tim) Brokaw, Hayden Wilgus, Kiersten (Chad) Craycroft, Matthew Hauenstein, Zander Hauenstein, Colt Biehl, Lacey (Malik) Corbin, and Coy Nickelson; 18 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Along with her parents, Martha was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Coleman, and Dorothy Scott.
Visitation will be held 11am-1pm on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville. Following visitation, a procession will form at the funeral home to head to Milford Center Cemetery where a Celebration of Life graveside will be held at approximately 1:30 pm. A luncheon will follow at the Milford Center Lions Club, 20 London St., Milford Center, where all are welcome to attend.
In Martha's memory, contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice Loving Care, 779 London Ave., Marysville. Contribution cards will also be available at the funeral home.
The family would like to share a special thank you to nurse Amy from Loving Care Hospice, as well as the other nurses who came to help take care of Martha, for their love and compassion during her final days.
