Martha Jean Cain Straub passed away on December 10, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, cherished great-grandmother and sister, and a dear friend to many.
Martha was born on October 2, 1937 in Rossville, Georgia to the late John Matt Cain and Minnie Lee Ellis Cain. Her family later moved to Chickamauga, Georgia where Martha married and lived a life of love, laughter and kindness. She, along with her twin, was the eldest of 4 children. Her siblings include Mary Jane Reed Swafford, who preceded her in death on May 7, 2023, David Edward Cain who preceded her in death on June 26, 2016, and Judith Ann Coulter.
Following graduation from Gordon Lee High School, she then married Charles William "Bill" Straub. Soon after, Bill and Martha started their beautiful family. She then attended a secretarial school and began her working career. She was employed with Modern Maid Stoves until the Chattanooga operation was relocated, then worked at Jerry Bogo Company until her retirement.
She attended Fellowship Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and in recent years attended First Baptist Church of Chickamauga. She always loved the beach and looked forward to family vacations for many years to Panama City Beach, Florida. When not at the beach, you could often find her on the weekends at Pine Forrest Pool or on a lounge chair in her backyard soaking up the sunshine. In May of 2023, she moved to Tucson, Arizona to live with her daughter Brenda where she truly loved the warmer weather, big blue skies and bright sunshine. While in Tucson people quickly picked up on her Southern accent. When they asked where she was from she would proudly say, "I'm from Georgia!" They would ask how she liked living in Arizona and her response was always, "I LOVE it!"
Martha's family describes her as strong and resilient, with the sweetest and kindest soul, who was always willing to help anyone in need. And, the one who made the BEST lemon icebox, chocolate and pecan pies.
Martha's love for family and community will be cherished in our memories and our hearts forever. All that knew her will rest in the assurance that she is now with her Savior, and her Christmas celebration will be more glorious than we can ever imagine, until we meet up with her again.
Martha is preceded in death by husband, Charles "Bill" William Straub, Sr, daughter, Cynthia Lynn Straub Revis, son, Charles William Straub, Jr, and grandson, Jeremy Scott Revis. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Brenda Straub (Greg) Groves; sister, Judith "Judy" Coulter; grandchildren, Walter Jerry "Trey" (Angela) Parrish, III, Thomas William (Kaita) Parrish, Judith Brooke Parrish, Rachel Leigh Groves and Jacob Gregory Groves; great grands, Gabriel David "Gabe" Daugherty and Walter Jerry Parrish IV as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Martha will be held at 4:00p on December 28 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Chickamauga, GA. Family and friends are invited to visit starting at 10am.
The family would like to thank Bayada Home Health and Bayada Hospice in Tucson, Arizona for all the love and care they provided to Martha and the family. All of the team members showed tremendous care, love and compassion to all of them.
