Martha Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 20, 2024.
Beloved mom, sister, grandmother and friend
Martha Janet (Jan) Davis age 79, of Gresham Oregon passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, February 16th, 2024, after two bouts with breast cancer earlier in life, and finally a long battle with a rare form of liver cancer.
Born on October 26, 1944, to Fred and Ruth Avery in Ogden Utah, the family moved to Springfield Oregon when she was a very young child. Jan attended Thurston High School in Springfield Oregon and was married to Jack J Davis on February 11, 1961. Together they had three sons, Robert born on June 26, 1961, Billy born on March 20, 1963, Jack born on November 29, 1975. Jan later had an amazing fourth son, Eddie on January 28, 1986, that rounded out the 4 pillars of blessing in her life.
The family moved away from Springfield in 1969 and lived in Marysville Washington until 1973, at which time they moved to Boise Idaho, and later to Mountain Home Idaho, and Spokane Washington, eventually settling Gresham Oregon where she resided at the time of her passing. Jan worked as a housekeeper in several senior care facilities and eventually finished out her working carrier at Adventist Medical Center in Portland Oregon where she served for over 24 years. Jan had many hobbies that she was passionate about including making jam, baking, ceramics, macrame, knitting, crochet, sewing and quilting.
Jan loved the Oregon coast and camping in the mountains, which always was a time of peace and reflection. Most of all, Jan was all about her family her 4 sons and 9 grandchildren were life to her, and she cherished every moment with them, always longing for more.
Jan was preceded in death by her father and mother Fred and Ruth Avery, former husband Jack J Davis, sisters: Phyllis Butler, Opal Alexander, Carol Wetted, Joyce Watson, Pearl Miller, Gladys Warner-Fox, Betty Goldenstine, Shirley Thompson, Patsy Gladberry, and Marie Offolter.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her surviving family members: sons Robert Davis, Billy Davis, Jack Davis, Eddie Sherman, brothers: Boyd Avery, and Leroy Avery, sisters-in-law: Mary Avery, Barbara Davis, daughters-in-law: Christal Davis, Rachel Davis, Gina Sherman, grandchildren: Josiah Davis, Bethany Davis, Lydia Davis, Ethan Davis, Kaelan Davis, Paxton Davis, Madeline Davis, Hailey Sherman, Aubrey Sherman, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors that she enjoyed throughout her life.
A Celebration of Life service will be on March 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception at:
New Song Community Church
2511 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd
Portland OR. 97212

Jan always had such a wonderful smile on her face. She was such a friendly soul. She was someone who would always say hello and wave when you saw her. She was a great neighbor and will be so missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
