Mrs. Martha Crawford Epps, 73, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina transitioned on July 28, 2023.
Martha Ann Crawford Epps was born on July 13, 1950 to the late Ernest Crawford and the late Katie Deans Crawford in Nash County. She peacefully departed this earthy life on July 28, 2023 at UNC Nash Health Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC.
At a young age, Martha attended Nash County Elementary School until she relocated to New York with her parents. She continued her education in Queens Village and graduated from Martin Van Buren High School in New York. In the early 1980's, Martha returned to NC and met the love of her life, Johnnie, while working together at the Carlton House Restaurant in Rocky Mount. They fell in love and were married for thirty-eight wonderful years. She later decided to attend Edgecombe Community Edgecombe College to further her education in early childhood development and started a home daycare. Martha loved and cared for many children until she retired in 2013. She was an active and faithful member of The Scripture Center until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Russel Deans.
She leaves behind to cherish her wonderful memory, her husband, Johnnie Epps of the home; her children: Dominique Epps of Rocky Mount, NC, Craig Ming of California and Angelique Shipman (Lee) of Raleigh, NC; her grandchildren: Kanvis Anderson of Stantonburg, NC, Jailen Bynum of Raleigh, NC, Sariq Epps of Rocky Mount, NC, Aaleyiah Johnson of Rocky Mount, NC, Chassiti Johnson of Rocky Mount, NC, Omari Johnson of Rocky Mount, NC, Devonta Lancaster of Rocky Mount, NC, Sumaya Lancaster of Rocky Mount, NC, C'Meia Ming of Raleigh, NC, Jaiden Shipman of Raleigh, NC, Avia Wilson of Rocky Mount, NC, Einyelle Wilson of Rocky Mount, NC, Jamar Wood of Rocky Mount, NC, J'yony Wood of Rocky Mount, NC; her great grandchild, Mahkynzie Bynum of Raleigh, NC; her special nephew, Robert Deans of California; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Jones of Tarboro, NC, Cynthia Epps of Raleigh, NC and Mary Epps of Rocky Mount, NC; three brothers-in-law, James Epps and Clayton Epps, both of Rocky Mount, NC and Cleveland Epps of Raleigh, NC; her special friends: Brenda Battle, Renee Bryant, Eva Clark, Christine Dixon, and Betty Drake; her spiritual father: Pastor Samuel Arrington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held for Mrs. Epps on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with the funeral following at 1:00 pm at Thornes Chapel Baptist Church located at 1624 Windsor Drive, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The Interment will take place immediately after the service at New Hope Church Cemetery (Drake-Battleboro).
