Martha Golson, born Martha Ann Miller, a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, departed peacefully on October 20, 2025. She was born on June 11, 1952, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Willie and Eva "Glenn" Miller. She was the nineth of thirteen children.
Martha was a vibrant spirit-known for her contagious laughter, steadfast faith, and unwavering support for those she loved. She had an incredible gift for making everyone feel welcome and heard, and her compassion will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and grace-a true testament to a life well-lived and deeply loved.
Martha dedicated her life to helping others through her meaningful work in social services as a foster parent. Her kindness and compassion knew no bounds-her home became a haven of warmth and refuge for countless children and families over the years. She was more than a caregiver; she was a guiding light, offering hope, stability, and unconditional love to all who crossed her path.
Beyond her devotion to others, Martha had a zest for life that was uniquely her own. She loved shopping and finding great deals, often delighting in discovering treasures that brought joy to those around her. Her eye for beauty and her knack for generosity made even the simplest moments feel special.
Married to her beloved husband, Gennie Golson, for 33 cherished years, Martha embodied the truest form of partnership. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, faith, and enduring love. As Christ followers, they devoted their lives to serving others as they served the Lord.
In addition to her beloved husband, Martha is survived by her two loving daughters, Pamela Morris James (Dr. Ty James) and Shonda Davis, who were the pride and joy of her life. She also leaves behind her sisters Patricia Bryant (James Bryant) and Anita Miller (Terry Edwards); her brother Nathaniel Miller; and her beloved grandchildren Sumer James, Tyler Beth James, and Hiram Woody.
Martha was a favorite among her nieces and nephews, who adored her for her wise counsel, infectious humor, and open heart. Her home was a constant gathering place-filled with love, laughter, and the comforting aroma of a meal prepared with care. She had a special gift for making everyone feel like family.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her siblings James Earl Miller, Willie Miller, Shirley Miller, Noah ("Sonny") Miller, William ("Ed") Miller, Thomas Miller, Benjamin ("Pete") Miller, Donald ("Bo") Miller, and Jacqueline ("Miller") Sartor, as well as her precious granddaughter Marlen Eva Jane Davis.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home, with Pastor Aaron Thomas officiating. Aubrey Miller, James Miller, Javon Miller, Davon Miller, and Jaquan Miller will serve as pallbearers.
Following the service, the family invites all friends and loved ones to join them for a repast at the Hightower Family Care Center, where food, fellowship, and shared memories will honor the beautiful life and lasting legacy of Martha Ann Miller Morris Golson.
