Martha Eugenia Henderson, 106, passed away Monday January 1, 2024 peacefully at home on the Henderson Farm.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Miriam Jones McMahan.
Eugenia attended Greenville High School and went on to Furman University to study business and music. She obtained her doctorate in Music Education and went on to teach music.
She also stood proudly by her first husband as he served in the United States Army and served her country as a secretary for the Commanding Officer at Station Hospital at Fort Benning, SC.
Eugenia was an avid reader, and in her youth, enjoyed tennis and golf. As time marched on, she developed a love for knitting and sewing and could often be found creating clothes for any one of her grandchildren or great grandchildren.
Mrs. Henderson was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church.
She leaves her son, Michael L. Henderson and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Henderson; daughter-in-law, Nancy Henderson (of the late Richard R. Henderson); four grandchildren, Adam Henderson, Michelle Henderson, Ryan Henderson, Ian Henderson and his wife, Rachael Henderson; and two great-grandchildren, Ja'Coby McMahon and Beau Henderson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Miriam Rebecca Traynham and Anna Mae Langley; brothers; Moritz Alexander McMahan and Kenneth McMahan; her two husbands; Henry Lorenzo Henderson and David Keck; and a son, Richard Ross Henderson.
A visitation will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. The memorial service will be held Saturday, January 6th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Matthew United Methodist Church.
