Martha Louise Wright Jones, age 92 of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
She was a native of Harrisonburg, LA and attended Harrisonburg High School. After graduation she attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, where she met Dale Jones. They married after she graduated with her BA.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Jerry “Dale” Jones; her brothers, Harold Bell Wright and Raymond Scotty Wright; and her sister, Rachel Fay Wright Lincecum.
She is survived by her children, Steven Keith Jones (Joyce) and Lillian Gayle Jones (Richard); her siblings, Sue Elizabeth Wright Primm and Rebecca Kay Wright Domanque; her grandchildren, Andrew McPhearson (Laura), Jason McPhearson (Jessica), Hanlon Jones, Chris Albright (Taylor), and Corey Albright; her great grandchildren, Liliana McPhearson, Jase McPhearson, Colten Parker, and Cade Albright; and two special nieces and their husbands and sons, Amy Lincecum Comstock (husband, Brian and son, Gavin) and Jennifer Lincecum Lechner (husband, Jonathan and sons, Jonathan, Nathan, and Logan).
She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years in Jefferson Parish, LA and Bay St. Louis, MS. In her younger years, she taught Sunday School and VBS during the summer at St. James United Methodist Church. In the afternoons, she tutored students. She loved teaching young children.
She had a passion for gardening and loved flowers, loved being outside around nature, and watching and feeding birds. She enjoyed crafts and over the years, she loved painting, drawing, making jewelry, creating mosaics, and sewing. Her motto was “You have to be productive every day.” Martha enjoyed traveling and “sistering” trips.
In high school, she was a member of the girls’ Basketball Team her senior year (1950). They were the State Champs and was always very proud of that. Martha loved spending time with her family.
Thank you to the staff at Seashore Highlands and Memorial Hospital for the care, compassion, and love they gave to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alzheimer’s Association, MMS (MS Methodist Sr. Services), or United Methodists Sunday Fund Day.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Rd., Biloxi. The funeral will begin at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, followed by a reception until 1:30 PM.
