Martha "Marti" A. Shuda, of Stevens Point, passed away on September 20, 2024, at the age of 84.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church - 800 4th Avenue, Stevens Point. Rev. John Potaczek will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Bible Vigil at 7:30 PM, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Shuda Funeral Chapel (3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point) and again at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of service, in the Faustina Room. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Marti was born July 28, 1940 in Gary, IN; daughter of the late Frank and Selma (Berget) Rebeck. In her childhood years, her parents relocated the family to central Wisconsin, settling in Shantytown. Marti attended Rosholt High School and graduated with the Class of 1958.
After high school, Marti attended cosmetology school in Green Bay. Upon graduation, she began her career as a beautician in Milwaukee, WI. During this time she met James "Jim" Shuda. The two were married on February 17, 1962. A few years later, Jim opened his own business, Shuda Funeral Chapel, in Stevens Point. He and Marti worked side by side until their retirement; Jim as a funeral director and Marti providing cosmetology services. During their marriage, Jim and Marti not only grew their business, but they grew their family as well, welcoming a total of 7 children.
Marti dedicated her life to being a devoted wife and loving mother. Her greatest joys were her children, and eventually her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling and golfing; she was quite a competitor in her day! Sometimes she could be found in the solace of her gardens, playing in the dirt. However, one of Marti's favorite ways to relax and rejuvenate was on a Caribbean cruise, and in her later years at their second home in Arizona.
Marti is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jim Shuda; two sons, Dean (Lori) Shuda of Stevens Point and Scott (Sandra) Shuda of Flower Mound Texas; four daughters, Sandra (Dan) Trelka of Waterloo, IA, Dawn (Dan) Larson of Chesterfield, MO, Kari (Jesse) Peplinski of Brookfield, WI, and Tracy (Jessie) Bugaring of Westminster, CO; a daughter-in-law, Tina Shuda of Stevens Point; 30 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Chris Wierzba of Stevens Point.
Marti was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Selma; a brother, Michael; an infant sister, Margaret; and a son, Kip Shuda of Stevens Point.
For those wishing to express their sympathies, the family kindly suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Marti's name to Tunnels to Towers (www.t2t.org).
