Martin Cathey
Martin, A beloved friend, family member and bright light to all who knew him passed away suddenly on October 29th, 2025, while on vacation in San Jose California.
Martin was born to Elizabeth Brophy and Joseph Mihalcik on July 6th, 1958, in Bronx, New York.
Martin's mother later married Jerry Cathey, who raised him and his siblings as his own. After being born in New York, the family later moved to Barstow, Chula Vista California where he grew up and attended school. Later, they moved to Kauai, Hawaii where he attended and graduated High School in 1976. Martin later moved to Daytona Beach Florida to attend college at the Daytona Beach Community College for a short time, then moved back to California where he graduated from DeAnza College in Sunnyvale in June of 1978.
Martin started his airline career in January 1979 with Western Airlines. He was able to travel and work at multiple airline hubs and eventually settled in at The Salt Lake City Airport working for the newly named Delta Airlines, formally Western Airlines.
Martin married his first wife Yvonne and had a daughter, Ashley.
They later divorced and he met his second wife Alene and had two more children, John and Michelle. Martin and Alene were later divorced.
Martin was known for dedication to his job and strong work ethic, He approached each endeavor with pride and determination in everything he tackled.
His commitment and dependability inspired many around him that left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to work beside him.
Martin had a charismatic and natural gift for connecting with people and brought laughter wherever he went. He easily made friends and cherished those relationships deeply. He has a positive spirit that will be missed.
In Martins free time he found happiness traveling and exploring to new places with his one and only sweetheart Madge. He also enjoyed listening to music and spending time outdoors with her and their two best boys "Sam and Cooper". Madge and Martins relationship was very special 15 years. There was nothing that they couldn't talk about, they fit together beautifully.
His son John will miss their camping trips and adventures they took together. His daughter Michelle will miss their conversations singing and his care for her.
Martin will leave many that knew him with countless memories, a legacy of hard work, friendships and love.
He is survived by his Sweetheart Madge Snell, his brother Mike (Dawn) Cathey, his sisters Maryanne Downey, Cathey (Jose) Montalvo, his son John Cathey and his daughter Michelle (Sean) Baker and many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death with his mother, father and stepfather.
Please join us at St. Margurite's Catholic Church on Monday November 17th at 11:00 am for Mass, followed by a luncheon at 1:30 pm at The Double Tree Hotel to share stories and laughter in remembrance of a life well lived.

Later on, Martins ashes will make their final resting place along side his mother and his special Aunt Mary in Queens New York
