Martin A. Cropsey "Marty" of Wurtsboro passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the age of 77.
The son of the late Alfred Cropsey and Veda Conklin Cropsey, Martin was born on March 6, 1948, in Cobleskill, New York, and graduated from Richmondville Central School District in 1968.
Between 1968 and 1972, Martin proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he was employed by the United States Postal Service for many years, serving as postmaster in multiple locations, including Highland, New York; Ellenville, New York; and Wurtsboro, New York. He eventually retired from the post office in Wurtsboro.
Martin was a long-time member of Moose International, Wurtsboro Chapter. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling in the night leagues in New Paltz and playing in the American Pool Players Association in Sullivan and Orange Counties. He proudly coached his daughter's softball teams and played in the men's softball league in Highland, New York. A lifelong sports watcher and lover, he enjoyed every game, every team, and every conversation about sports. He was happiest surrounded by friends and family.
He is survived by his daughters Evelyn "Eve" Cropsey-Mauri and her husband, Jose, of Glen Wild, N.Y.; and Patricia Schafroth and her husband, Jeff, of Middleburgh, N.Y.; his sister Edith Strobeck of Cobleskill, NY; and eight grandchildren: Shanna (Leon), Vanessa (Anthony), Cheryl (Scott), Elizabeth (Michael), Jose III (Katie), Michael, Morgan, and Sarah; as well as many great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind dear friends Marie Merlo of Wurtsboro, Rose Shuart of Ocala, FL, Danny Zeh of Wurtsboro, and Colleen Figueroa of Wurtsboro. In addition to his parents, Martin was predeceased by his brother, Carl Cropsey, and his sister, Marie Goff.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Graveside services and burial with military honors will be held on Friday, November 14 at 12:30pm at the Middleburgh Cemetery, Huntersland Road in Middleburgh, NY
