Martin Gonzales, a longtime resident of Watsonville, died on May 25, 2025. He was 79.
Martin was born on November 23, 1945, in Kingsville, Texas. When he was a young teenager, his family relocated to California and settled in Watsonville. He met and married the love of his life, Maria del Carmen, and together they would raise their children and share many wonderful years until his passing.
Martin worked hard for many years to provide for his family, as a mechanic in the trucking industry. In his free time, he loved sports, he was on a soccer team and used to box in his younger years. He also loved watching football and was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins.
He was an active member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church and participated in all the events and plays. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He had a strong mind to go with his strong attitude and was a warrior for his family and many friends. His friendly and helpful ways quickly made him a beloved person in his community, always willing to help anyone in need.
Martin is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Maria del Carmen Gonzales, his children George Gonzales, Fatima N. Jimenez-Gonzales, and his son-in-law Chris Jimenez. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Lyric, George Jr., Kevin (Leo), Monique, Cielin, and Maylis, as well as his great-granddaughter Zavaya, all of whom he loved dearly.
A viewing will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel 222 E. Lake Avenue, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a rosary starting at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Help of Christians Church 2401 E. Lake Avenue, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 10:00 am, with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery 2445 E. Lake Avenue.
