Marvin Leonard Harkrader, age 98 of Fredonia, KS, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024 in Wichita, KS.
Marvin was born in Wichita on June 14, 1926, to Roy and Letha Harkrader. He was the youngest of six children, growing up with his older siblings: Floyd, Harry, Mary, Roy Jr., and Helen.
Marvin's family moved to Andover in 1935, and he left high school during his senior to join the United States Navy, where he served as a signalman on an LST in the Pacific theater of WWII. After serving his country, Marvin had a career in the shoe business and managed and opened many shoe stores for the Brown Shoe Co., and owned two Hush Puppie stores in the Tampa Bay area. He then worked at Fredonia Regional Hospital for several years, as well as Walmart in Independence, KS. He made many friends at these two places and was a positive influence in his co-worker's lives.
Marvin is survived by his son, Alan.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his siblings, and his daughter Darla.
He will be missed by his nieces and nephews whom he loved very much, as well as his VA and Home Town Health care giver team, and many others that became part of his family.
Per Marvin's wishes, cremation will take place and his ashes buried next to his wife, Eunice.
Services entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 420 S. 20th, PO Box 247, Fredonia, KS 66736
