Marvin Owen Huston, of Traverse City and formerly of the Manton area, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Maple Ridge Living Center in Manton with family by his side. He was 89.
Marv was born on June 4, 1935 in Manton, Michigan to Wylie and Josephine (Bogart) Huston. He proudly answered the call of duty, serving in the United States Army. On September 15, 1961 he entered into marriage with the former Bonny Loree Strange at the Manton United Methodist Church. The couple spent 58 loving years together until her time of passing on November 15, 2019. Marv and Bonny enjoyed traveling together and spent many winters as snow birds in Gulf Shores, Alabama. They cherished their cabin at Rennie Lake and spent much time making it the perfect spot for family gatherings. Marv spent his career working for the City of Manton for nearly 30 years, until his time of retirement. He liked spending time outdoors tending to his garden. Marv enjoyed going on fishing trips to Canada with his family, where they made many special memories. He was a dedicated U of M Wolverine fan and liked watching the games. Marv loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marvin is survived by his loving children, Celia "Ann" (Mike) Rioux of Traverse City and Mark (Judeen) Huston of Manton; grandchildren, Lydia (Dave) Case, Meghan (Keith) Utech, Matt (Alicia) Huston and Hope (Austin) Kantola; great-grandchildren, Delaney Case, Owen Case, Jordyn Utech and Wesley Utech; brothers, John and Butch Huston; and many other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by wife, Bonny; parents, Wylie and Josephine; brother, Walt Huston; sister, Alice Hutching; and in-laws, Merrit and Celia VanPelt.
A committal service will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Manton.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Manton Museum.
