Marvin Stanley Labecki, affectionately known as Marv to his friends and loved ones, passed away on August 23, 2025, in
Bradenton, Florida, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Born on January 1, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marv's unwavering dedication to his family and community marked the 82 years of his well-lived life.
Marv's early years were spent in the city of his birth, where he attended Bay View High School where he met his wife, Nancy. Marv and Nancy married on February 2, 1963. He later furthered his education at Milwaukee Area Technical College. His commitment to public service was evident from the start as he embarked on a distinguished 35-year career with the City of Milwaukee Police Department. Starting as a police aide, Marv's intrinsic leadership qualities saw him rise to the rank of sergeant in 1974. The MPD sent him to the FBI National Academy in Quantico as well. He spent his final years on the force imparting his wisdom and experience to new recruits at the MPD training academy.
After his retirement, Marv continued to nurture future generations of law enforcement officers as an instructor at MATC in their police science department. His passion for safety and community extended to his work at the amphitheater at Summerfest, where he and his wife Nancy served as security for 14 years.
Marv's Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through times of joy and hardship with grace and humility. He was a beacon of strength and compassion to all who knew him.
Marv's love for the outdoors was a defining aspect of his life. Since his high school days, he cherished the time spent at Long Lake near Rhinelander, Wisconsin. In 1966, Marv and Nancy took a significant step in purchasing a lot on Long Lake, where they built a cabin in 1971. This cabin became a haven for fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling, deer hunting, pontooning, splitting and cutting wood and countless family memories. As their children grew and friends and extended family joined, the cabin saw expansions and renovations, reflecting the growing love and laughter that filled its walls.
In 2005, Marv and Nancy made the heartfelt decision to move permanently to their beloved cabin, welcoming many friends, pets, and family members to share in their slice of paradise. They began wintering in Florida in 2007, first in Panama City Beach and later settling in Bradenton, where Marv spent his final year surrounded by the warmth of the sun, his loved ones and snowbird friends.
Marv leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy (Dedynski) Labecki; his sons, Jay (Marlin), Wade, and Timothy (Ken) Labecki; his cherished grandchildren, who brought him immense joy in his later years, Nathan (Coryn) Labecki, Maddie (Miguel) Delrio, and Jessica Labecki; as well as his great-grandchildren, Aiden and Wren.
Marvin Stanley Labecki's life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his family, his career, and his community. He will be remembered for his kindness, his infectious smile, and the indelible impact he made on the lives of all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. His memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of those he loved and served so well. Marv's journey through life was a testament to the power of devotion, hard work, and the simple pleasures of time spent with family and nature. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us forevermore.
