Mary Ann M. Slama, nee Kuehl, age 93 of LaGrange, formerly of Lyons. Loving mother of Patricia (Ben) Maska and Robert Jr. (Donna) Slama, cherished grandmother of Jessica (Ryan) Harris, Jennifer Slama, Jason (Maria) Maska and Paige (Steven) Vanderbok, dear sister of Marjorie Bushelle, fond aunt of David (Diane) Bushelle and Donald (Mary Kaye) Bushelle.

Mary Ann grew up on a farm in Freeport where she developed a passion for cooking and dreamed of becoming a nurse. After leaving Freeport she moved to Chicago and began her studies to become a registered nurse earning that title in 1950. She then went on to earn a Bachelors in Nursing. She had an impressive career in nursing where she earned a Masters degree and also taught nursing to up and coming students. After a long career working in hospitals she embarked on a career in home healthcare by opening two home health care agencies and oversaw those until her retirement at the age of 88.

She had a strong passion for home-cooking, from fruit preserves, to a wide array of beloved Christmas cookies, to full meals for her whole family to enjoy at every major holiday. When she wasn’t cooking, she was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, a lifelong member of St. Barbara Catholic Church, and an animal lover to both cats and dogs. Mary Ann followed her passions for helping others; she surrounded herself with family, God, and numerous pets. She will be missed dearly.
