Williamsburg-Mary Serena Appleget was born February 7, 1930, in Keokuk County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Steen) Beach. She graduated from Sigourney High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. Mary taught school for a few years before she was united in marriage to John William Appleget on November 1, 1953, in Sigourney. They lived in Seneca, IL for 32 years before moving to Williamsburg in 1994. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and presented the children’s moments. She was also in Red Hats. Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting, working in the flower garden, playing the guitar and visiting with people. She always had a warm smile on her face. Mary died Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 95 years.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Appleget and Roy Appleget; a number of step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband John in 2013 and a daughter Mary Charlene Appleget.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 until service time at the church. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul United Methodist Church or Williamsburg Public Library.
