Obituary published on Legacy.com by Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory - West Odessa on Oct. 1, 2025.
Mary Katheryn (Breeden) Beckham, known affectionately to all as Mary, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, at the age of 78 in Midland, Texas due to natural causes. Born on February 1, 1947, in Gladewater, Texas, Mary's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and service, woven with the threads of faith and family.
Mary's journey began as the cherished daughter of Joe H. Breeden and Helen (Bradham) Breeden. She grew up in a nurturing environment that shaped her into the remarkable woman she became. Mary's early education in Snyder, Texas, laid a strong foundation, and she further distinguished herself as a cum laude graduate from Odessa College in 1988, where she majored in business.
In 1966, Mary's heart found its match when she married James T. Beckham Jr. in Snyder, Texas. Their love story was one for the ages, enduring nearly six decades filled with laughter, companionship, and mutual respect. Together, they raised a loving family, including two sons, Thomas Beckham of
Odessa, TX, and Timothy (Jodi) Beckham of San Antonio, TX. Mary's legacy also includes six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and vibrancy to her life.
Professionally, Mary was known for her meticulous work as a tax collector and her keen eye as a proofreader for The Odessa American Newspaper. She approached her work with the same integrity and commitment that she devoted to every aspect of her life.
Mary's interests and passions painted a colorful portrait of her personality. She was a fervent fan of the CSI series and Criminal Minds, reflecting her love for intrigue and her analytical mind. Sweets were Mary's delightful indulgence, and her fondness for them was well-known among her loved ones. Her home was a haven for wildlife, where she found serenity in feeding and watching hummingbirds and in the companionship of her cherished chihuahua, Bailey.
A pillar of strength and love, Mary's spirit was deeply entwined with her church family at Sherwood Baptist Church in Odessa. She relished the fellowship and was an active member of the 55+ Seniors club, where her presence was always a source of warmth and cheerfulness.
Mary was a beacon of love and faith, touching lives with her courageous and faith-filled presence. Her love was an enveloping force, radiating from her with such intensity that it was almost tangible. Her playful banter with James, particularly her teasing requests for him to "stop weaver bobbin'" on the road, will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joe Harold Breeden, and her daughter-in-law Jeannette Beckham, Mary leaves behind a legacy of love and a family that will forever cherish her memory.
Mary Katheryn (Breeden) Beckham was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of faith, and the courage to live authentically. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mary's memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
