Mary Beth Thomas, age 70, formerly of Strasburg, died Sunday, December 29, 2024 in Ohio’s Hospice – Truman House at New Philadelphia, following a brief battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Bethesda, Maryland on June 20, 1954, Mary Beth was the daughter of the late Hugh Schott and Mary F. Boyd Bair and was a graduate of Strasburg-Franklin High School. She furthered her education at Kent State University where she obtained an Associate of Nursing Degree. Mary Beth loved her career as a nurse where she spent many years in the Labor and Delivery Department at Union Hospital and later took several positions as a traveling nurse. Her favorite position as a nurse, however, was her work with Med-Flight as she was an assistant on Cessna plane transports.
She was a passionate nurse and caregiver who also deeply loved her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, attending their activities and traveling throughout the United States and abroad.
Mary Beth will be missed by her children, Paul Thomas, Jr., Matt (Yvonne) Thomas, and Kristy (Jason) Romano all of Strasburg; her grandchildren, Jacob, Paul III, Zoey, Grace, Sadie, Drew, Hunter, Tristen, Kape, Havyn and Lillie; her great-grandchildren, Brax, Althea, Avery, John, CeCe, River and Laikyn.
Completing the family are her siblings, Kimberley Breehl, Peggy Korns, and Thomas (Jessica) Schott as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother and father, Mary Beth was preceded in death by siblings, Henry “Louis” Schott, Claire Hawk, Robert Schott, and Marty Sallade.
A memorial service celebrating Mary Beth’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 3 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where the family will greet guests one hour prior to the service. A private inurnment will take place in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg.
