Mary Bivens Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Owens Bivens, 82, of 110 Riverby Farm Road, Edenton, NC, died Friday, October 21, 2022 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.
Mrs. Bivens was born in Gates County on August 9, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Bennie and Ethel King Owens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Miles Bivens, Sr.; sisters, Doris Jean Brickhouse and Virginia Lane; and by brothers, B.G., Bob and Billy Owens.
A retired supervisor with United Piece & Dye Works, she was a member of Yeopim Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Sheryl Pierce (husband, Larry, deceased) of Tyner and Donna B. Harrell (husband, Doug) of Camden; three sons, Joseph Miles Bivens, Jr. (wife, Christy) and Thomas G. Bivens, both of Edenton and Bennie Robert Bivens (wife, April) of Sneedville, TN; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Frances VanHorn of The Villages, FL, Ruth Lane and Joyce Evans, both of Edenton, and Carolyn Howell of Kill Devil Hills; and her longtime companion, C.Y. Parrish of Edenton and his family.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. A private burial will be in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., or all other times at Joe and Christy's home, 439 Rocky Hock Creek Road, Edenton.
