Mary Ann Buchanan was born on August 22, 1941, and passed away peacefully at home on August 15, 2025, surrounded by her husband and five children. Her passing marked the end of a brave battle with cancer and its complications.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Emma, and her younger brother, Joe. She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Jim; her five children-son James and daughters Kelly Buchanan, Heather Bartz, Kayce Rainsberg, and Leah Hall; her sister, Joan Rien; 11 grandchildren, Ryanne, Shawn and Molly Boland; Jake, Easton, and Dax Bartz; Ruby, Annie, and Rex Rainsberg, and James and Connor Hall; and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family.

Mary Ann, her husband, and their two oldest children were born in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1971, the family moved to Northern California, and in 1978 they settled in Antioch, where Mary Ann devoted herself to raising her five children. She worked in the Antioch School District for over 20 years in many different roles, always finding ways to help others. She retired in 2004 and delighted in watching her grandchildren grow.

Mary Ann enjoyed gardening, cooking (she was an excellent cook), reading, films, good wine, crime and mystery TV shows, and sports. A proud Pittsburgh "yinzer," she was a lifelong Steelers fan and, more recently, adopted the Golden State Warriors-especially her favorite, "cuddly" Steph Curry. She lovingly cared for all creatures including family pets throughout the years and more recently neighborhood cats and enjoyed watching hummingbirds gather around the feeders she kept filled with her homemade sugar water.

A funeral service will be held at St. Ignatius Church in Antioch on September 12th at 1:30 p.m. with a reception following. The family is deeply grateful to friends and loved ones who have offered support during this difficult time. Mary Ann was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose loss leaves a void that can never be filled. May she rest in peace.
