Modesto Carrera Navar, 82, of Antioch, CA, passed away peacefully at home during the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

He was born on January 28, 1943 to his parents Miguel Carrera Zepeda and María de la Luz Navar Herrera in El Rincón, a municipality of Tepehuanes, Durango. In 1966, at the age of 23, he immigrated to California and married Aricelda Sufflé in San Francisco.

Modesto worked for many years as a proud union laborer. He had a passion for working on cars and was known for his ability to build almost anything with just a 2x4. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's baseball games, wrestling matches, and folklórico recitals. He also loved watching billiards and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Modesto's true passion was honoring La Virgen de Guadalupe every December 12 in Durango. It was more than tradition-it was his way of expressing devotion, love, and community. He poured his heart into the music that filled the air and made sure no one ever left hungry. His generosity, joy, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.

Left to cherish his memory: His loving wife of 58 years, Aricelda Sufflé Carrera; daughters Guadalupe María Carrera, María Luisa Carrera, María de la Luz Dolores Carrera , Christina Dolores MacAlvey with husband John Edward MacAlvey IV; grandchildren Arturo Modesto Becerra with wife Anissa Andrea Becerra, John Edward MacAlvey V, Salvador Antonio MacAlvey, and Isabelle Dolores MacAlvey; and great-granddaughter Melia Marie Becerra.
