Mary JoAnn Busick

Mary JoAnn (Finnegan) Busick, known as "JoAnn," passed away on November 20, 2023 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, WV, at the age of 93. JoAnn was born on September 21, 1930, in Wheeling.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents Mary Katherine (Wallace) and William Finnegan, husband Charles J. Busick, daughter Charlotte Ann (Busick) Brooks, infant grandsons Charles Elgan Brooks and William Ellison Brooks, son-in-law Bob Walters, and dear friend Bob Schmitt.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Lisa) Busick of Louisville, KY; daughter Kathy Walters of Medina, OH; son Bill (Gail) Busick of Wheeling; nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Eric) Blatt, Chris (Kelly) Walters, Jeff (Kelly) Busick, Matt Walters, Meghan (Dan) O'Brien, Courtney (Matt) Wiggins, Stephen (Emily) Busick, EJ Brooks, and Kevin (Val) Busick; seventeen great-grandchildren: Ethan, Charlie, Drew, Will and Tommy Blatt; CJ, Patrick and Ben Walters; Bobby, Charlie and Henry O'Brien; Hannah and Matthew Keebler-Busick; Sophia and George Busick-Wiggins; and Olivia and Alex Busick. JoAnn is also survived by her sister, Charlotte (Gene) Ballard; her sister-in-law Ginny Busick; and many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was born and raised in Wheeling, attended St. Mary's Catholic grade school, and graduated high school from St. Joseph Academy in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Chuck Busick, in 1951 and spent most of her young and middle adult years raising their four children and managing the family business, Ohio Valley Decorating. JoAnn loved Notre Dame, was a football season ticket holder for over 30 years, and hosted many a tailgate in South Bend that rivaled the best. Over the course of many years, she volunteered for the Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary and served as its President. She enjoyed crafting and cross-stitching and shared that love with several family members, attending craft shows and making countless home decorations and gifts. She could often be found in the kitchen cooking and baking. Among the family favorite recipes she perfected were pepperoni rolls, Chex mix, and pita garlic bread, just to name a few. She enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her family and friends, including the Welling, Schmitt, Cupp, and Vogler families, among many others.
Visitation for JoAnn will occur on Saturday, November 25, at St. Michael Catholic Church from 9:30 am until time of Mass at 10:30 am. Procession to Mt. Calvary Cemetery and entombment at the Chapel Mausoleum will directly follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wheeling Central Catholic High School or Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
