Mary Gretchen Buth passed away peacefully, at 82 years of age, on January 3, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born Mary Gretchen Griffin, on November 1st, 1941, she was a lifelong resident of Michigan, with one year spent living in Glendale, California. She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School and was then married to Douglas Dart. She eventually remarried to Jim Buth and ultimately chose to live an independent life. She was employed by Blodgett Hospital in the Admitting office, for twenty-one years.
Gretchen was very interested in politics, the royal family, and current events. She enjoyed a history and family connection to Grand Rapids dating back to her grandfather managing the historic Penn Club and her mother's family owning the iconic Drueke Games company. Her family and friends remember her for her feisty, funny and tenacious personality. She was a treasure trove of information, had an excellent memory, and could decorate a room that the White House would be proud of.
Mary Gretchen Buth is survived by her son James Dart and his wife Linda Dart; her grandchildren and their spouses, Anthony and Melissa Dart, Lidia (Dart) and Brad Becker, Julia (Dart) and Shiv Ganganithi, Alexandra (Dart) and Alfonso Malagon Lozano; her great grandchildren, Lailah and Miles; her brothers Bob Griffin and his wife Jane, Tom Griffin, and Chris Griffin.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, James and Rosemary Griffin, her sister Marian Griffin and her brother Jim Griffin.
A celebration of Gretchen's life will be held later this year. She will be greatly missed!
