Mrs. Mary "Pat" Akin Colbert, 89, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM followed by a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 PM at Osborn Funeral Home. Father James McLelland will recite the Rosary. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 PM on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at St. Michael the Archangel Chapel, at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans. Officiating will be Msgr. Matthew T. Long. Interment will follow at Forest Park, East.
Mrs. Colbert was a native of Shreveport, LA. She was a lifelong member of St. John Berchmans and recently joined St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Additionally, she was a member of Altrusa International, Inc., Red Hats Society, Book Club, Bridge Club, and Shreveport Yacht Club.
She attended C.E. Byrd High School. She earned a Bachelor's degree in History from Newcomb College at Tulane University, a Master's degree in Counseling from Louisiana Tech, and a Master's degree in Social Work from LSU. She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She had a diverse career in Vocational Rehabilitation, Adolescent Chemical Dependency, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Pain Management.
She was a devout Catholic, a phenomenal mother, a loving grandmother, and she cherished her great-granddaughter, Georgia. She took each of her children on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and cared deeply for the Franciscan Foundation of the Holy Land.
Pat faced many hardships in her life but remained steadfast in her faith throughout. She loved fiercely, was a world traveler, and shared that passion with her family. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Austin Franklin Akin, and Dr. Margaret Rouse Akin; son, Douglas Patrick Cloutier; grandsons, Michael Thomas Montoya and Christopher George Cloutier.
She is survived by her husband, William J. Colbert, Jr.; daughters, Sherry Cloutier Montoya and husband Mike; Julie Cloutier Anderson and husband Mark; son, Chuck Cloutier; grandchildren, John-Lewis Anderson and wife Christina; Jordy Cloutier and wife Hayley; and Callie Anderson; great-granddaughter, Georgia Cloutier; step-children, Michael Stevenson, Chris Colbert and wife Susan, Malissa DeBosier; step-grandchildren, Ethan Colbert and wife Amy, Sarah Cutrer and husband Jonathan, Zoey and Macy DeBosier; step great-grandson, Cade Colbert; and brother Dr. John Rouse Akin.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Dr. Margaret Rouse Akin Award (in honor of Pat's mother) at the University of Iowa Center for Advancement by contacting Brittany.whitmore
@foriowa.org or to support Christianity in the Holy Land by donating to The Franciscan Foundation of the Holy Land at FFHL.org.

Pat was a caring person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She loved her family and helped many people during her career as a social worker. Her devotion to her Catholic faith was admirable. Rest my friend.

Pat & I met in the 3rd grade & have been friends ever since. She was my college roommate & my Matron Of Honor when I married. I was her Maid Of Honor for her wedding too. We have had many wonderful adventures together. I love her & will miss her. Carolyn Alford Saunders
