CRAIN

Wilbert Oscar "Bill" Crain, Jr. passed gently into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the age of 83. A native of Shreveport, he was born January 31,1942, to Wilbert Oscar and Estela Groce Crain. Bill attended Byrd High School, where he was a talented baseball and football player and editor of The Gusher yearbook. He then received his undergraduate and law degrees from Tulane University while serving as president of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He soon moved to Houston, TX, as an attorney for United Gas Pipeline for many years and later returned to Shreveport, where he enjoyed the company of his childhood friends.

Bill is survived by and will be forever missed by his wife of 30 years, Elaine Williamson Crain; his two loving daughters, Cici Crain Shelton and husband Will, and Allison Crain Hammer and husband Gregg. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Mary Lauren Shelton Vice and husband Campbell Vice, William Shelton, Cole Hammer, and Haley Hammer; two sisters-in-law Speight Anderson, Becky Williams and husband John David, and brother-in-law Jesse Williamson.

Bill was a caring son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother-in-law. He loved God, his family, his friends, and his country with a devoted and faithful enthusiasm. He was an avid golfer and never missed watching an Astros game or LSU football game. He enjoyed reading, working in his manicured yard, and following the stock market.

Always involved in the community, Bill and Elaine were members of First United Methodist Church, the Shreveport Club, the Shreveport Country Club, and Southern Trace Country Club.

A memorial service will be held at Osborn Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9
The Good News: "We are the inheritors of the good news which He (Christ) left with us; that death is the gateway to life; that it is a big leap, not into darkness but into the hands of Everlasting Mercy. This must be an act of trust, an act of love by which we abandon ourselves to become one with our Lord and Savior." - Estela Crain
