Farley Funeral HomeMary Teresa Cotter, 71, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at the Life Care Center of the South Shore in Scituate on Friday, February 27, 2026. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Joseph I. and Teresa E. (Slye) Cotter. Mary was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1972 and was inducted into the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame. She earned her Associate Degree from Massasoit Community College in Brockton. She was the head of security at several different companies in Rhode Island before moving to the Kraft Group in Foxboro. Mary was a longtime season ticket holder for the New England Patriots. She coached softball, basketball and field hockey at Stoughton High School for many years. She played for the Waltham Drifters Softball Club for many years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially on Cape Cod.
Mary was the sister of Richard “Dick” Cotter and his wife Sandra of Dennis, Patricia Bismore and her longtime partner Skip Bell of Manchester, NH, William Cotter and his fiancé Kathleen Marinelli of Stoughton and the late Joseph I. Cotter and Kevin W. Cotter. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, March 13 from 9-10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary‘s memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, Office of Philanthropy, 529 Main Street, 4th Floor, Charlestown, MA 02129 or www.joslin.org.
