Mary Lee Covin, 99, of Jacksonville, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Ms. Covin was born in Leesburg, Georgia on March 14, 1925, to the late Doshia and Luchius Terrell. She was an active member of Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, where she selflessly served as a church mother.
Ms. Covin was blessed with a servant's heart, keeping a home and raising children. Along with Johnella Harden Jones and Reid Harden she also raised their children Katie Stoneburne, Ann Cranford, Reidy Boyd, and Elizabeth Wimberley, which she lovingly nicknamed Bizzy. She then raised their children.
Ms.Covin was a member of The Red Hat Society and had a passion for reading her bible, volunteering, baking, cooking, and gardening. Other than her parents, Ms. Covin is preceded in death by her sisters, Ola Will Rucks, Lena Turner, Annie Lou Brantly, Mary Helen Terrell, and Mamie Reid, her brothers, L.C. Terrell, and Davison Terrell. She is survived by one sister, Ruth Lewis and a host of nieces and nephews.
Being the heart and soul of Jacksonville, Ms. Covin was presented a Certificate of Recognition by Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church for being an outstanding church mother. She was awarded The President's Volunteer Service Award for her commitment to making a difference through serving others, also for making a difference in her community by the Northeast Florida Community Action Agency and Jacksonville's Mayor John Delaney presented her with an award for her exemplary service in thiscity. Ms. Mary Lee Covin lived her life unapologetically and faithfully serving God and devoting herself to others.

Ms. Covin, may be viewed on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Carthage Chapel Funeral Home, from 4:00 p.m. Until 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, 10325 Interstate Center Drive, Jacksonville, Florida 32218, and the interment will be in Arlington Park Cemetery.
