Mary Ann Dreiling

Mary Ann Dreiling, 78, passed away on Tuesday August 5, 2025. She was born on February 3, 1947 in the picturesque town of Aliartos, Greece. After graduating high school at 17 years old Mary Ann's journey led her across the ocean to the United States without even knowing the English language. Her Greek heritage was an integral part of who she was. It was her compass, guiding her life, her values, and her approach to family and work. Her legacy is one of enduring commitment to her work, the joy of sharing her Greek culture through her cooking, and instilling her love and faith for God to her family. Mary Ann was also an avid gardener, her hands not only creating culinary masterpieces but cultivating the most stunning and vibrant flowers that she loved to share with others. Mary Ann poured her heart into the 3 Star Restaurant, a beloved local eatery in Lorain, Ohio, where she was both an owner and operator. Her innate talent for cooking, coupled with an unwavering commitment to authenticity, ensured that everything served in her restaurant was homemade, prepared with love, and served with joy. Having her son Nick by her side cooking at the restaurant was everything to her. It became a gathering place for friends and family, and a community hub of countless cherished memories for all who passed through its doors. Mary Ann's world revolved around her family. She was a loving wife to her husband Horst Dreiling, a dedicated mother to her son Nick, and a doting Yiayia to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She embraced her title as a Yiayia with every single fiber of her being. She couldn't go long without spending time with them as they were the apples of her eye. From loving family dinners, to going to the farm market shopping for fresh fruit, vegetables and treats, a tradition she was proud to carry on with her great grandchildren.She embraced her role as a Yiayia with gusto, pouring all her love and faith into their upbringing. She also stood as a beacon of strength, protection, and unconditional love, for the entire family and helping with shaping all our lives with wisdom. She was a matriarch, a reliable pillar of strength, and a testament to the fact that hard work and dedication pay off. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. The heavens truly gained such a rare and genuine beautiful soul. Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Horst Dreiling; and siblings, Barbara Sotirakis, Anastasia Doskas, and George Gikas. She was "Yiayia" to her grandchildren, Maryann Nicole (Eric Jones) Tournas, Andreas Nicholas Tournas, Alexandria Marie Tournas, Sofia Persefone Tournas, and Elene Mercedes Tournas; and great grandchildren, Eastin, Jayden, Violet, Veda, Colton, and Kinsley. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Persefone Gikas; son, Nicholas "Nick" John Tournas; and infant daughter, Elene. The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH on Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 1:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 PM, Pastor Ruben Figueroa, officiating.
