Mary 'Janice' Gary, 87, died October 15, 2024, here in Bakersfield, California.
Janice was born in August of 1937, in Los Angeles, California, to Paul and Helen Hammer. Her father's work had the family moving quite often, and she finally settled in Bakersfield during her high school years. She graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1955. Janice was a homemaker and enjoyed many hobbies, including knitting and needlepointing. She was active with church and the many activities of her children, as they grew up. Janice was a woman who cared deeply for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Janice was predeceased by her husband Frank, who died in August of 2022. They had been married for 67 years, since the ages of 17 and 18. She is survived by her son, Steve Gary and his wife, Theresa Gary; her daughter, Diana Besenthal and her husband, Art Besenthal; her granddaughter, Megan Thompson and her husband Josh Thompson, and their two children, Brooke and Bryce Thompson; her granddaughter, Mallory Johnson and her husband Kris Johnson; and her grandson, Frank Gary and his wife Kathleen Nunez.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 1st at 10:00 a.m. The service will be at Greenlawn Cemetery on River Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to an organization of your choice in her honor.
Janice will be remembered and missed by all that knew her.
