Mary Gilbert, 92, of Harker Heights, died Tuesday May 10, 2022, in a Temple hospital.
Mrs. Gilbert, was born on April 3, 1930, in Cainbrake, West Virginia, to James and Suzanne Brewer. She moved to the Killeen area in 1955.
Mary was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Killeen and First Church of Harker Heights for many years. She taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She loved spending time with her family and loved helping any and everyone that needed help. She was the last of the "2 little ladies" who sold Peanut Brittle all over town. We know in our hearts she has gone on to walk the streets of gold and is visiting with her family members and friends that have gone on before her. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
The wife of the late James R. Gilbert, who died in 1980, she is survived by her daughter Paula Watson and husband Mike of Georgetown; sons George Gilbert and wife Cindy of Salado and James Gilbert and wife Suzanne of Killeen; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17th, 2022, First Church of Harker Heights. Services: 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18th, 2022, at First Church of Harker Heights. Her final resting place will be at Cedar Knob Cemetery in Salado.

I have fond memories of sitting in those little chairs in Sister Mary's Sunday school class, while she taught us the word of God, and making peanut brittle in the church annex in Killeen. She will be missed but never forgotten.

She was a wonderful woman and I looked up to her like she was my own grandma I was always at her house with my mom playing card games and chicken foot. She helped me so much as a kid I don´t know where I would be if she wouldn´t have been there to help us. She would pick me up from school if my mom couldn´t, she would take me to church on Wednesdays. She is definitely missed but will never be forgotten. I even remember one year I participated in geek day at school and she let me borrow a pair of glasses because I didn´t have any. I was a very lucky girl to have met such a wonderful woman. I am so sorry for your loss and I know she is in heaven looking down at us all.
