Mary Alice Hendrick, known to most as "Mary Alice," passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2025. Born on March 8, 1946, in Conway, South Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late Floride and Jim Hendrick. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Hendrick, and her nephew, Stephen Stec.
Mary Alice grew up in Conway, SC, where she built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and grace. She began her career in cosmetology, always one with an eye for beauty and style, before finding her true calling in the legal field. Mary Alice, or as she was affectionately known as "Mac" or "M.A." by those who were sure to see a smile on her face at the Horry County Courthouse, served faithfully for more than thirty years as legal assistant to the Honorable Judge John L. Breedon, Jr., first in Master-In-Equity Court and later in Circuit Court. Her attention to detail, loyalty, and sharp memory made her an invaluable part of the court family.
Family was always at the heart of her world. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Angel Bryan, and her highest honor was being "Mae Mae" to her beloved grandchildren, Beau and Henry, who always brought a smile to her face. She is also survived by her niece Amanda (Paul) Stec and nephew, Jamie Hendrick.
To those who knew her best, Mary Alice was kind-hearted, quick-witted, and full of charm. She loved reading a good book, browsing her favorite shops, and getting dressed up for lunch dates with her dear friends, where she could be counted on to tell the best stories and remember every last detail!
She had a way of lighting up a room with her fashion sense, her humor, and that unmistakable sparkle in her eyes. If you knew her, you surely remember her favorite farewell: a cheerful "Toodles!"
A celebration of her life will be held in late November, with details to be announced. Condolences and memories may be shared with her daughter, Angel Bryan of 89 Great Lakes Road in Pawleys Island, South Carolina 29585.
Though she will be deeply missed, the love and laughter she shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
