Funeral service for Mary Ann Johns, 87, of
Lawton, OK will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Eighth and Lee Church of Christ with Billy Palmer officiating.
Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026 with a special visitation for family and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary Johns, 87, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026. She lived a full and faithful life centered around family, church, and serving others.
Mary was born on May 17, 1938 in
Canadian, Oklahoma to Elmer Ray and Vera Faye (Weeks) Carmon. She was the oldest of two children. She graduated from Canadian High School. She married Richard Lee Johns on April 25, 1958 and they made their home in Lawton. They were blessed with three children: Linda, Glenda, and Rick. Mary was a devoted homemaker, involved in all the children's school activities - always volunteering to be home room mother, bringing her famous no-bake chocolate cookies to every school event.
Mary generously gave of her time. For over 60 years, she poured her heart into her 8th & Lee church family by faithfully organizing funeral meals, teaching Bible classes and often opening her home to host youth game nights. She also volunteered at Comanche County Memorial for nineteen years, aided Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma and Faith Hospice for several years.
Mary loved to have fun, and playing games like Wahoo and Farkle was always a special time with her grandchildren. Games with her grandchildren weren't just about winning - they were about laughter, and making memories that will be talked about for years to come. Mary also enjoyed time spent with friends. Thursday Bridge games were always on her schedule.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her daughter Linda Nickle and husband, Jeff, of
Lawton, OK; daughter Glenda Compton and husband, Stephen, of Highlands Ranch, CO; son Richard Johns, Jr. and wife, Shea, of Petrolia, TX; Her grandchildren Stephen Nickle and wife, Lauren, of Norman, OK; Carissa Overstreet, of Seattle, WA; Ethan Compton, of Poteau, OK; Lucas Compton and wife, Kamie, of Littleton, CO; Grant Compton, of Highlands Ranch, CO; Gracie Johns,of Burkburnett, TX; Richard Johns III, Paisley, Oliver, of Petrolia, TX; great grandchildren, Henry and Vivienne Nickle; her brother Lynn Carmon and wife, Linda; along with many other relatives, church family, and friends who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Lee Johns Sr., and by her parents.
Her laughter and wit will be deeply missed. Her legacy of faith, service, strength, fun, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.
