PRESQUE ISLE: Mary Jane LaBrecque, 73, passed away December 10,2024 at The Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle surrounded by family and her daughter by her side. She was born on February 28,1951 in Van Buren, the daughter of Louis and Lillian (Gagnon) LaBrecque. Mary Jane's life is best remembered by being a devoted mother, grandmother and spending time with family and friends. She is known as "Mimi" to her granddaughters and "Aunt Jane" to nieces and nephews. She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1969 and then moved to Washburn in the late 1970's when she met her former companion of 33 years, Paul Clayton, where she resided to raise their daughter. In high school, she worked at the Drive-In and Gayety theater and then went on to work at Potato Service Inc, followed by McCain Foods for numerous years. Mary Jane loved to travel and spend time outdoors. She grew up camping with her family and continued to do so throughout most of her life. She especially enjoyed going to the coast of Maine every summer and looked forward to eating fresh lobster. Some of her other favorite places to travel were Boston and California to visit her daughter. She enjoyed watching baseball and would go see the Red Sox play at Fenway Park whenever she was in Boston. As traveling got more difficult later in life, she adored having visits from her granddaughters and did many local activities with them. Her recent visit spent at the lake was her most cherished. Mary Jane also had a love for music and dancing. She was fond of all types of music; however, she loved to listen to country music the most. She was introduced to country when she met Paul and she regularly attended his band's performances. She would go anywhere where live music was playing and really liked outdoor concerts and Broadway musicals. Some of Mary Jane's other hobbies included reading, playing cards and board games, going to craft shows, gardening, journaling, scrapbooking, word puzzles and snowshoeing. Mary Jane was predeceased by her father, Louis LaBrecque; former companion Paul Clayton; and niece Kelzie Caron. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Clayton Meehan and husband Kevin of Los Gatos, California; and granddaughters Evelyn and Elise. She is also survived by her mother, Lillian LaBrecque of Van Buren, and her five sisters, Geraldine Boyd and her husband Joe of West Gardiner, Rose Marie Martin of Lewiston, Pauline Berube and her husband Maurice of Auburn, Brenda Michaud of Van Buren and Linda LaBrecque and companion, Alan Page of Chapman. Mary Jane will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
