Mary Lance Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cantelmi Long Funeral Home - Bethlehem on Apr. 21, 2025.
Mary Elizabeth Lance, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, at the age of 57. Born in Fountain Hill, she was a cherished daughter to Russell C. Lance and Pearl E. (Bartholomew) Lance of Bethlehem.
Mary grew up in a loving home where her close bond with her family was evident. She shared a special connection with her brother, the late Malcolm Lance, whose memory she held dear. In addition to her loving parents, she is survived by her brother, Russell C. "Rusty" Lance, III (Erica) of Reading and many nieces and nephews.
A proud graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School, Class of 1985, Mary was not only an outstanding softball player but also made history as the first woman to don the Beca mascot hawk costume. Her talent on the field earned her scholarships that paved the way for her extensive educational journey. Mary attended Lockhaven University, Northampton Community College, Salem University in West Virginia, and ultimately graduated from St. Andrews University in North Carolina. Her love for learning propelled her to further her education at Villanova University, where she earned both a Master's and a Doctorate Degree in PHR.
Professionally, Mary had a successful career, making significant contributions to every organization she was part of. She served as the assistant to the president at Teva Pharmaceutical for many years, bringing her warmth and expertise to the role. Later, she transitioned into human resources, where she continued to impact lives at Sweet Street in Reading. She was also a former parishioner of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.
Mary's interests extended beyond the professional realm. She had an unwavering love for softball, a sport that played a central role throughout her life. Her enthusiasm for the game was matched by her love for the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Steelers, which she enjoyed watching alongside her dad. Traveling, especially to beach destinations, was another joy in her life, providing her with cherished moments of relaxation and adventure.
Those who knew Mary would describe her as the epitome of friendliness. Her ability to connect with people, her warm smile, and her genuine concern for others will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Services: Mary's services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Her arrangements are entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be made at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com

I remember this young lady as the only girl who played on a boy´s Little League team in the early `80´s, (Northwest LL). She was an excellent pitcher, too. She was a delight to watch. RIP, Mary.

I call your name and all I get is silence. I look for you in a crowd and all I can see are blank faces looking back at me. The voice I use to listen for has now gone silent. Your beautiful green eyes have closed.. But you are not gone my memories are held tight in my heart and you will never be gone as long as I keep those memories of you for love never dies it goes on forever.
Miss you my dearest daughter and I watch as your star shines letting me know you are here with me.

Love you always, Your MOM.
