Mary Margaret Mitchell

Mary Margaret (Brown) Mitchell, 86 passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Corydon Specialty in Corydon, Iowa.
Mary Margaret Mitchell was born Aug 29, 1938, to Floyd Oscar and Lauretta Ilo (McKinney) Brown in Corydon, Iowa. Raised in Corydon, she had two older siblings-Bette Lou Miskimins and James Robert (Bob) Brown. She graduated from Corydon High School in 1956. On Jul 24, 1956, she married Jimmie Dale (Jim) Mitchell at the Corydon Methodist parsonage. In 1961, the couple adopted a four-month-old son, Jeffrey, and in 1964, they adopted a nine-month-old daughter, Laura-both having the same biological parents.
Over the years, Mary worked as a secretary for attorneys Garrett & Bown and Johnston & Miles and for John Rider Real Estate & Abstracts of Title. For a few years, she worked as an aide at the Junior High in Cambria before being asked by June Hellyer to be her Deputy Recorder at the Wayne County Courthouse-a post she held for seven years. Mary was a gifted artist as well as musician, playing piano and teaching guitar.
Mary leaves behind her son, Jeff (San Francisco), daughter, Laura Reyburn and husband Dean (Dana Point, CA), sister-in-law, Roberta Brown, sister-in-law, Sharon McCaull, and brothers-in-law, Weston and Wendell Mitchell (Terri), as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lauretta Brown, in-laws, Waldo and Marie Mitchell, husband, Jim, sister, Bette, brother-in-law Rex Miskimins, brother, Bob, brother-in-law, Terry Mitchell and wife, Marylou, brother-in-law, Bill McCaull, and sister-in-law, Julie (Wolf) Mitchell.
A private graveside services for the family will be held at later date, with interment at the Corydon Cemetery.
