Mary Mitchell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 8, 2025.
Mary Frances Mitchell (née Gundelach), 64, of Holland, Ohio, passed away on October 4, 2025. She was born on June 22, 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Al and Virginia Gundelach.

Mary was preceded in death by her former husband, Edward Mitchell. She is survived by her brother, Richard Gundelach; cousins Pam (Stuart) Cohen and Ricky Yamek; sister-in-law Lisa Walker. She was also beloved aunt to nephews Luke (Amy) Laurel, Allen (Alison) Laurel, and Chip (Kellie) Walker; Cassidy (Robert) Jeffries; niece Maddie (Jake) Neubert; and her beloved grand-nieces and nephews Henry, Macie, Eleanore, Brantley, Lucienne, Olivia, Arwen, and Olivia.

A graduate of Toledo's Roy C. Start High School, Mary went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toledo, graduating summa cum laude. She devoted 22 years of her professional life to Fifth Third Bank, where she built a reputation for reliability, kindness, and integrity.

Mary was a long-time member of the Point Place Boat Club and a supporter and volunteer with the Toledo Humane Society. Her hobbies included gardening, tending her swimming pool, and doting on her beloved dogs. She lived with rheumatoid arthritis since her teenage years, yet never let it diminish her optimism and joyful spirit. Ever grateful and resilient, she refused to let adversity govern her life.

Known for her ever-present sense of humor, Mary had a gift for making others laugh - whether through her quick wit or her encyclopedic mastery of puns. She had a way of lightening otherwise stressful moments with a perfectly-timed joke or a knowing, irreverent glance.

Mary will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for her humor, her warmth, and the generous spirit she shared so freely with others.

Family and friends will celebrate her life in a private memorial service.

Memorial donations can be made to the Toledo Humane Society.
