Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Lee Peters, 85, of Marshall, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the remembrance center. Interment will follow the service at Cavalry Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.
Mary Lee (Hoffman) Peters was born on August 14, 1938, in Marshall, to Lee and Anne (Van Overbeke) Hoffman. She grew up in Marshall and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1956. When she was young she enjoyed spending summers on Lake Le Homme Dieu in Alexandria and riding horses, especially her favorite, “Big Red.” On April 29, 1959, she was united in marriage to Clayton “Pete” Peters at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. The couple was married for 55 years. Mary Lee worked for the family accounting business, Hoffman & Brobst PLLP, Bremer Bank, for the Minnesota Lottery and she volunteered for the Admission Office at Southwest Minnesota State University. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge, reading and “power shopping.” She was also a sports fan and especially enjoyed following basketball and football at any level. She and Clayton wintered in Arizona for many years and enjoyed playing golf. Mary Lee was especially fond of time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and her dogs.
Mary Lee died on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. She is survived by her children Mark Peters of Marshall, Lee Anne Hoffmann of Minneota; grandchildren Jessica Anderson of Marshall, Adam (Emily) Hoffmann of Minneota, Rachel (Jory) Dove of Cottonwood; great-grandchildren Autum Anderson, Piper Anderson, Elliott Anderson, Zander Hoffmann and Wesley Hoffmann; siblings Brian (Sandi) Hoffman of Alexandria and Deb Hoffman of St. Paul, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clayton, son-in-law Bruce and grandson David.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Holy Redeemer School.
