Mary Theresa Purtill, age 76, passed away on November 3, 2025, at Covenant HealthCare - Harrison in Saginaw, Michigan. She was born on July 30, 1949, in Bay City.
Mary grew up on a farm in Kawkawlin where, as her sisters fondly recall, she earned the nickname "Dad's workhorse." She was one tough cookie, known for her strength, grit, and no-nonsense love-but also for being deeply kind, caring, and compassionate. She lived her life simply and was always happy to help others in quiet, thoughtful ways.
Mary had a creative heart and hands that were always busy. She loved sewing, crocheting, macramé, needlepoint, quilting, and especially cross-stitch. Whether it was a handmade blanket, a stitched keepsake, or a thoughtful little gift, Mary's creations were shared generously with her loved ones. Her talent and love are stitched into the fabric of her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Purtill, in 1994; her grandson Vincent; great-grandson Ryder; siblings Agnes (Chet) Manczak, Janet (Bob) Carrier, and Patrick Rosolowski; and in-laws Patricia Rosolowski, Gary DeShano, and Terry Henning.
Surviving Mary are her sons, Thomas (Jody) Purtill and Michael (Carrie) Purtill; grandchildren Carrie Pelton, Ashley Pelton, Kyle Purtill, Jayce Armstrong, and Justine "Jess" Armstrong; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Vincent Rosolowski, Michael Rosolowski, Margie (Tom) Gillman, Florence DeShano, Patricia Henning, Joseph (Alice) Rosolowski, Eileen (Ted) Kaiser, Joan (Timothy) Houghteling, Elizabeth (Robert) Wiedyk, and Ann (Mike) Wackerle; along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Mary will be remembered for her steady strength, creative spirit, and the love she poured into everything she touched.
Visitation will take place on Saturday December 6, 2025, at Squires Funeral Home from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM.
