Mary Alice Davila, 50, loving mother, devoted wife, best sister, loyal friend, proud aunt, and shining light in this world, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Mary died peacefully at home surrounded by close family. She was born (March 11, 1973) in San Antonio where she married and raised her family, including her beloved son Joe John Davila, Jr.
Mary touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife to Joe John Sr., a loving mother to her daughter Angelina and son Joshua; daughter Mariah Avila; a caring grandmother to her granddaughter Violet. Mary found great joy in helping with her children's school activities and was beloved, often surrounded by children.
She was a faithful Christian who loved spending time with her family and helping others, especially those in need. Mary's generosity was beyond measure.
Among the things that brought her joy – everything sparkly, makeup, shopping, dresses, arts-and-crafts, making jewelry, decorating her home, peacocks, butterflies, flowers, Paris themes, sweets, making everyone around her laugh and saying 'que feo.'
Mary attended Burbank High School and earned a Bachelor's degree in forensic accounting from DeVry University.
Mary leaves behind quite a legacy in the hearts of her siblings, Jacinto, Eric and Angel Ybarra whom she helped raise; Marcel Sanchez; Jesse and Sylvia Padilla and Roy and Rosie Rodriguez. Her memory will be forever treasured by her nieces, nephews and little cousins: Eric, Evan and Ethan Ybarra, Justin Scott Woolsey, Alexis Gonzalez;
Joey and Angela Cantu, Jaime Lopez, Jesse and Miranda Padilla; Ruth, Renee, Roy and Regina Rodriguez; Adam Rodriguez, Stephanie Flores; Melissa Lopez Medina, Joseph Lopez, Jonathan Lopez, Debbie and Rick Caballero, Jr.; Angelica (Pookie) Richardson; Ruby, Ruben and Nathan Ramon; Maranda and Mariah Smith; Sisters-in-law: Jo Anne Smith (Troy), Diane Caballero, Lisa Lopez (Roland). Family members: Joe Davila, Jr., Frank and Yolanda Valdez; Cousins: Margie De La Cruz, J.R. Lopez, Charles and James Padilla. And their numerous extended families.
She is predeceased by her mother Yolanda Padilla Ybarra, son Joe John Davila, Jr., and niece Rebecca Rodriguez; mother-in-law Mary H. Davila, brother-in-law Rick Caballero, Sr., great nephew Aaron Michael Cantu, cousin Robert Reyna, 2nd cousin Steven Valdez.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Brookehill Funeral Home (711 S.E. Military Dr., San Antonio, TX 78214). Visitation will be held from 3pm to 4pm for family only and 4pm to 8pm for the public and the Prayer Service to begin at 6pm.
