Mary Weaver Obituary

Weaver, Mary Logan

December 30, 1923 - February 9, 2022

Mary Logan Weaver was born December 30, 1923, and was married May 11, 1948, both in Carthage, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Grey Weaver, Sr. (Dick); father, William Rozelle Logan; mother, Frances Lillian Sutton; brother, Dick Logan. She is survived by her children, Grey Weaver, Jr. (Ferrell Clay), Nancy Weaver (Dave Dandridge), Jennifer Baldwin (Lowry); grandchildren, Erin Smith (Jake), Becca Harford (Jeremy), Abby Jackson (John), Trevor Baldwin (Erin), Keenan Baldwin (Sarah), Hannibal Baldwin (Emily); great-grands, Carver, Lucy, and Simon Smith, Dylan Stewart and Maren Harford, Ronan and Cian Jackson, Finn, Crew, River, Forrest, Maverick, Malin, and Mara Baldwin; nephew, Bill Logan; cousin, Tom Wiggins.

Mary received a horse as a gift from her mother at 6 years old when her father died. The horse, named Ginger, had a stall out back of her Grandpa's home where she grew up just off the square in Carthage, MO. Mary was a champion swimmer and diver as a teenager. Ginger rode the train east with Mary to attend Sullins College in Virginia for a couple of years. Then Mary matriculated to Washington University in St. Louis, where she majored in Political Science and met a young medical student on a double blind date. They married, and life with the military took them on the road from the Midwest and eventually they landed in Winston-Salem, NC, where they took root and raised a family.

Mary excelled in friends, community, gardening, artistic crafts, athletics, a supportive role to Dick, and creating a home and raising a family. She was a champion as mother, always encouraging and ready for adventure. Her smile, kindness, grace, wit, energy, and commitment were her trademarks. Mary was a wonderful role model for all who follow in her path.

She passed peacefully on February 9th, 2022 at Arbor Acres. The family is grateful for the loving care of many staff at Arbor Acres over the past decade. The communal support of Mary's and Dick's friends over the years in town, at St. Paul's, and Arbor Acres has been a comfort and inspiration. Angie Hendrix was a match made in heaven for the past eight years for Mary and Dick. Her companionship and care were invaluable.

A memorial will be held at a later date when family can gather to celebrate her life well lived. She will be interred in the garden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. Details will be announced in coming weeks. Any memorial gifts please make to St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Condolences may be made online at www.salemfh.com.

I always loved seeing Mary! She was so inviting and kind to play golf with me when I first started. I also learned of her swimming and love the photo you have of her! I swim at Old Town and think of her many swims as inspiration. I loved seeing her at St Paul's for many years also. Rest in peace, Mary. I hope you and Dr Weaver have a joyous reunion.

I truly enjoyed visiting with Mrs. Weaver each time I saw her in Arborview. My mother resided there as well and Mrs. Weaver was a lovely lady. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Our friends Mary and Dick Weaver were special neighbors and a happy, memorable part of our lives: dinners and private bridge games at OTC, get-togethers at each other's homes, tours in each other's gardens, and plant swaps. We enjoyed their flower entries in the annual Dixie Classic Fall Fair. An unforgettable sight was the long spiraling border of vividly blue "forget me nots" that Mary created along the edge of one of their garden beds. She shared handfuls of seeds with us, and now that blue border and the memories continue here in our garden, not to be forgotten.

Dick's been preparing a beautiful heavenly garden for you to enjoy together. Your sweet, gentle smile will live on in my heart. RIP Mary.
