Mary Ann (Wittgen) Weiss, 91, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Indiana.
Mary was born in Evansville, Indiana on October 25, 1933, to the late Edward M. and Marguerite (Schultheis) Wittgen. She was a 1951 graduate of Memorial High School and went on to attend Lockyears Business College. She worked briefly as a legal secretary before getting married to Art Weiss, whom she met in grade school. They were married for 61 years and had 4 children that they adored.
Mary was a faithful member of St. Anthony Parish where she sang in the Resurrection Choir and was an active member of the Senior Citizens organization. She was a former member of St. Theresa Catholic Church where she was very involved with Sunday dinners, the Summer Social and various volunteer positions while her children attended St. Theresa school. In her free time, Mary enjoyed attending luncheons with high school classmates, working on class reunions and playing Bridge and Clabber. Mary was a big sports fan and loved bowling, cheering on the Evansville Otters and the Purdue Boilermakers.
Mary and Art were always up for an adventure. They attended several Purdue Bowl games, highlighted by a trip to the Rose Bowl. Mary enjoyed many visits to the Netherlands while Art was there on assignment. She moved to Warsaw, Indiana for several years during Art's final project before his retirement. Mary always put family first, like when they moved to Michigan for a year to help with newborn twin granddaughters.
After Art passed away in 2019, Mary relocated to the westside of Indianapolis to be closer to family. She looked forward to phone calls with her brothers (Ed, John and Bob) and Bev Wargel, her friend of over 70 years. Nothing brought her more joy that a visit from her children or grandchildren. Her great-grandson, Bennett, could make her smile like no one else.
Mary is survived by her son, Kurt Weiss (Kathy) of Avon, IN; daughters, Karen Dolohanty (Dennis) of St. Joseph, MI, Ruth Gray (Ed) of Richmond, IN and Susan Odier (Darin) of Avon, IN; brothers, John Wittgen (Mary) of Evansville, IN and Robert Wittgen (Kate) of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Kelley Weiss, Bradley Weiss (Krestina), Christopher Weiss (Anne), Kristen Dolohanty, Sarah Dolohanty, Spencer Gray (Ashley), Allison Pipes (Trent), Natalie Odier, Audrey Odier; great-grandchildren, Bennett Weiss, Grayson and Hadley Pipes.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur Frank Weiss; her parents; grandchildren, Joseph and Brian Dolohanty; and her brother Edward Wittgen.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at All Saints Parish St. Anthony Church Campus, 704 N. First Ave., Evansville, IN 47710. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 10:00 am until mass time on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at All Saints Parish St. Anthony Church Campus.
