The family of Mary Cecelia Stegner Wessel is celebrating the life of our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025 surrounded by her family at the age of 100. Mary was born in Louisville, KY on November 29, 1924 to William and Florence "Flossie" Schneiderhahn Stegner. Mary graduated from Shawnee HS and then began working at L&N where she met her husband, Hubert "Hub" Wessel. After nearly 66 years of marriage, she was preceded in death by Hub in 2015. Mother dearly loved and was loved by her 5 children: Donna Metcalf (Grant), John (Lisa), Carol McCardwell (Mike), Bruce (Sharon), and Brian (Eliana). Mary was also blessed with 11 grandchildren: Shannon Derrick (Brad), Mark Metcalf (Brittany), Amber Iannazzo (Lonnie), Chris Wessel (Emily), Sean McCardwell, Megan Vissing (Tanner), Carol Taylor, Brooke Sears (Nick), and Adam, Veronica and Lucas Wessel. She also cherished her 11 great-grandchildren. Mary will be deeply missed and remembered with love by all her family and many friends.
Visitation will be at Ratterman Southwest, 4832 Cane Run Rd. on Sunday, April 27 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM with Mass at Mary Queen of Peace, 4005 Dixie Hwy. on Monday, April 28 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Shively Area Ministries Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, or St. Vincent de Paul Louisville.
