Mary Cornelia "Connie" Whitten, 87, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Eudora City Cemetery (2220 N 1420 Rd).
Connie was born on December 27, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of William John and Nellie (Greenwood) Corbidge. Connie attended school in Eudora, Kansas and was later united in marriage to Louis A Whitten on February 9, 1956. Together they raised five children. She had a kind and giving heart and would feed less fortunate families in the community during the holidays. She loved baking and sharing with the neighbors.
Some of the best artists quoted, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life" (Picasso), "Creativity takes courage" (Matisse), and "Art is never finished, only abandoned" (Da Vinci). Other great quotes highlight the artist's role in seeing the world differently, with the purpose of art as a form of personal expression and emotional connection.
Truly, this is the way Connie saw the world. There was not a craft - from oil painting to cake decorating, wood working, stained glass, crocheting and sewing that she had not mastered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lou, son Joseph Arnold Whitten, infant great-granddaughter Olivia Katherine Elizabeth Whitten, and sister Patricia Larson.
Survivors: her children, Mary Elizabeth Pemberton, Delaware; Thomas Earnest (Arlene) Whitten, Eudora, Kansas; Virginia Alice Whitten, of the home, Eudora, Kansas; and William John (Lori) Whitten, Eudora, Kansas, Grandchildren Shannon Steffan, Clayton Whitten, Brent Whitten, Joseph Whitten, Sara Petry, Michael Whitten, Heather Erickson, Mark Petry, Alexander Whitten, and Nicole Whitten, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and Gracie May (her beloved dog), Blusey and Buff (her beloved cats).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association (785-843-3738).
