In Loving Memory of MaryAnn T. Lawson (Hotaling) May 6, 1936 – August 11, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of MaryAnn T. Lawson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who peacefully departed this life on August 11, 2025, in Port Jervis, NY. MaryAnn resided in the same house on Ave I in Matamoras for over 55 years.
Born on May 6, 1936, in Yonkers, NY, to Leo and Edna Nevin, MaryAnn lived a life defined by grace, compassion, and quiet strength. She was a faithful parishioner, for 55 years, at Saint Joseph's Parish, a believer in God, His Holy Word and the Catholic sacraments. MaryAnn, always placing the needs of others before her own, loved her family and gave back to the community as a member of the Keystone Club. The comfort of her presence, her laughter, and her wisdom will be dearly missed.
MaryAnn found joy in life's quiet moments, surrounded by nature's beauty, savoring her morning coffee, and in sharing heartfelt conversations. MaryAnn's retirement days were filled with playing board games, taking walks down to the river and playing Mahjong with lifelong friends. Her resilience in the face of life's challenges was matched only by the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. She was a guiding light to all who knew her and her story.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lyle J. Hotaling Jr., her brother, Robert Nevin, brothers-in-law Gordon Purdy, and Richard Hotaling, and sister-in-law Theresa Hotaling.
MaryAnn is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 37 years, Thomas Lawson (Port Jervis, NY); her children: Michael Hotaling and wife Deborah (Yorktown, VA), Kevin Hotaling and wife Kristia (Mechanicsville, VA), Brian Hotaling and wife Denise (Huntsville, AL), Christopher Hotaling and wife Janelle (Stuart, FL), Alison Hendershot (Hamburg, NJ); her stepchildren: Doug Lawson and wife Giselle Gautreau (Charlottesville, VA), Christie Lawson and husband John Ross (North Wales, PA); her sisters: Patricia Purdy (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL), Denise Srednicki and husband Ron (Pittsburgh, PA); her grandchildren: Tara, Eric, Sydney, Ashley, Andrew, Jillian, Derek, Timothy, Claire, Kaii, and Benjamin; and her great-grandchild, Aurora. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
MaryAnn's family and friends will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude. Though she is no longer with us in body, her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Joseph's RC. Church, 307 Ave. F., Matamoras, PA on Saturday, October 11th, 2025, at 10:00 am, when family and friends will gather to celebrate her remarkable life and share memories.
A burial of cremains will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Main St., Port Jervis, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in MaryAnn's honor, to causes close to her heart, the Autism Society and Pike County Area Agency on Aging.
MaryAnn's life was a gift to us all, and her memory will be treasured always. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of MaryAnn, please visit our Tree Store.
