Roland Joseph Babcock, 65, of Montague, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Born on May 30, 1960, in Port Jervis, NY, he was the son of the late Roland W. Babcock and the late O. Patricia (Drinko) Babcock. Roland studied Computer Engineering at DeVry University in Woodbridge, NJ. Throughout his varied and accomplished career, he was a co-owner of Magic Carpet Cleaners in Montague, NJ, and Play N Trade Video Games in Port Jervis, NY. He also worked as a Scientist/Chemist at Avon Products in Suffern, NY, and later as a Senior Analytical Chemist at KDC/ONE in Port Jervis, NY. A man of many passions, Roland had an insatiable curiosity and a zest for life. He loved to travel and counted Australia and England among his favorite destinations, especially England, about which he was incredibly knowledgeable. A true history buff, he was deeply interested in the Civil War, both World Wars, and the British monarchy. Roland also had a great love for music-especially rock and heavy metal-and maintained an extensive collection of CDs and movies. A dedicated aviation enthusiast, he could often be found at airports simply enjoying the takeoffs and landings. He was especially fond of the Blue Angels and fighter jets. In his younger years, Roland enjoyed gardening and, even after moving to an apartment without a yard, delighted in sharing his gardening advice with others. He was known for his sharp wit, infectious humor, and ability to make everyone around him laugh. He also had a talent for building computers and enjoyed tinkering with technology. He is survived by his beloved sisters: Susan Ewbank and her husband Bryan Sr. of Matamoras, PA; Mareva Hutson of Montague, NJ; and Melissa Herman of Norfolk, VA. He also leaves behind four cherished nieces: Ashley Hutson of Durham, NC; Caryn and her husband Ross Packard of Manchester Center, VT; Mary Hutson of Montague, NJ; and Olivia Sauschuck, her husband Dillon, their children Nathan and Lia of Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan; and one nephew, Bryan Ewbank, Jr., of Matamoras, PA. Roland will also be deeply missed by many close friends who became extended family over the years. Roland is predeceased by his brother-in-law Randy Hutson of Montague, NJ and his infant sister Kathleen of Montague, NJ. Roland's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
