Maryl Oltz Forker "The Great One"
Horseheads, New York
Passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024 at the age of 96. Maryl was born on November 20th, 1928 in Danby, New York. She is pre-deceased by her parents Harold and Phoebe Oltz Mosher as well as her son; Michael Charles Merrill; late husband Ray Forker and granddaughter Lindsay Merrill.
She is survived by her son, David Scott (Melissa) Merrill of Millport, NY; granddaughter's Ashley (Jason) Ehrler of Lindley, NY and Megyan Merrill of Millport, NY; great-grandchildren Pearson Ehrler, Parker Schrage, and Eloise Ehrler; her "grand-pup" Kit, and many extended family members and friends.
Maryl grew up in the Ithaca area and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1946. She worked for a local insurance company as well as JCPenny's at the Arnot Mall after high school, but most notably owned and operated the original Dunkin' Donuts in Horseheads, New York for 17 years. She retired at 55 and never worked another day for the rest of her life. "The Great One" enjoyed playing golf and traveling, whether it was to the Outerbanks, going on cruises, or trips to Europe and South America. She was also known to attend polka festivals across the Northeast. Her biggest passion in life was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her adoring family and was a huge help in raising her three granddaughters.
