Mason Stevenson, Jr. "Grandson" was born on September 22, 1935 to the late Hattie Mae King and Mason Stevenson. He was born in Hale County, Alabama and was the second oldest of nine children. He was affectionately called "Grandson" from a very early age. He was educated in the Birmingham school system. Mason relocated from the south as a teenager and went to live with his Uncle James in Cleveland, Ohio. Moving to Cleveland resulted in the marriage to the love of his life, Marietta. During their 56 years of marriage, Mason and Marietta raised four children: Rick, Maria, Glenn and Stevie.
Mason was a hard working man. He lived in Flint, Michigan for some years and worked for General Motors, one of the "big three" automakers in the United States. He was smart, tenacious, humble, and a storyteller like no other. He had a gift to remember facts, numbers, faces, and experiences like a genius. He took pride in being a great provider for his family; always working very hard to ensure the family had a new car and house. Mason ensured they never went without, even if he chose to. He was a sports fanatic...and loved every sport! He was an avid golfer during his thirties. He loved to dance and had the most beautiful singing voice.
Mason was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1976 and he faithfully served Jehovah until his death. As a Christian, he enjoyed and valued the privilege of 48 years of dedication to God and serving others. Mason was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He is known for his kindness, big heart, and self-sacrificing spirit for anyone that needed him. He loved his family deeply and showed it every day of his life with no limits. His love for his family was so important to him and he was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On May 23, 2024, Mason fell asleep in death, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie Mae and Mason, his two youngest sons, Glenn and Stevie, two sisters, Jessie Mae and Theresa, and two brothers, Cornelius "Mane" and Frank. Mason leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Marietta, one son, Rick (Denise), one daughter, Maria (Warren), one brother, Jerome (Joyce), three sisters, Louvenia, Willie Mae, and Susie, thirteen grandchildren, Markeba, Percell, Moniette, Marlin, Darnell, Mia, Melissa, Mahlon, Kevin, Korey, Kasey, Mason Jr. "Lil Mason" and Jakobe, fifteen great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
