Mathew Samuel

Mathew Samuel, also known as "Joykutty," a steadfast follower of Christ, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2024, at the age of 67. He is remembered as a sacrificial husband, a kind father, and a joyful grandfather.
Mathew was born in Thumpamon, Kerala, India into the Charivuparmpil family to parents Mathew Charivuparmpil and Annamma Mathew. He was blessed with four brothers and two sisters. After completing his masters in commerce, he was a professor at University of Kerala teaching commerce. It was during his professorship when Mathew met his wife, Rose Samuel, and they were married on July 4, 1987. Soon after that, they were blessed with their first son, Dias Samuel. When Dias was age 5, Mathew took a job working in Muscat, and he and Rose also welcomed their second son, Dennis Samuel. Shortly after that, Mathew and his family migrated to Dubai, where he worked as an accountant for the Lutfi Corporation. Eventually, Mathew was able to fulfill his dream and migrate his family to the USA in 2003.
Mathew was known to be a hard worker, a passionate follower of Christ, a loving husband, and an instructive and gentle father. He was an accountant for the Rockland County Mental Health Department, while also working a second job in sales at Sears. Mathew put in countless hours of work to provide for his family and to ensure that his children were able to pursue opportunities in education. He joined the St. James Mar Thoma Church where he served the Church especially in the role as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. Mathew always had a smile on his face and joy in his heart. He always put the needs of his family and friends above his own. He raised both his sons in a Christian home and served as a role model to be faithful husbands and fathers. In his free time, he also developed a passion for gardening, and loved to show the fruit of his labor, particularly his roses and tiger lilies.
Mathew was married to his beloved wife, Rose, for 36 years until his passing. He welcomed his daughters-in-law, Sreya and Corinne, as his own children. Mathew was also a proud grandfather to three: Benjamin, Abigail, and Emery.
Mathew's legacy as a steadfast Christian, a sacrificial worker, and a kind and gentle spirit will forever be cherished by his family and those who knew him.
